Odysseus had just got back form his 20 year journey. Everyone in Ithaca thought that he was dead because he was gone for so long. If the men trying to marry his wife to get to the thrown knew he was back, they would attempt to kill him and his son. Odysseus very well knew that and he knew he needed help. He had to get himself a disguise so that they would not know who he was. I knew he didn’t know what to do so I had to help him. If I didn’t help him things would have been very bad! I went down and I disguised him as a beggar. When a stranger comes to your area, you should always be nice to them because there is a chance that they could be a god checking up on things. Since I disguised him as a beggar nobody knew who he was. Everyone besides one man treated him good, as if he were a god. The man who didn’t was considered the leader of all the men. He was the strongest and he was the best looking. He had the best chance of marrying Odysseus’ wife. He treated Odysseus just as he looked. When Odysseus saw his son he got alone with him and told him everything. He told him how he was just disguised and that they needed to make a plan. I thought it was very risky but that was just my opinion! His son couldn’t let anyone know that Odysseus was back so he had to keep it a secret and not acknowledge him so people didn’t realize anything. They made a plan to kill all of the men in his house and to not tell Penelope, which is Odysseus’s wife that thinks he is dead. They knew that they would need help to kill all the men but they didn’t know who was loyal so they had to do it themselves. Once they killed all the men and succeeded, they could tell Penelope. Odysseus told her everything and undisguised himself, but she was so surprised she didn’t believe him. Odysseus was just as he was 20 years ago just before he left and she still didn’t believe him. He had to bring up past events that only him and her knew about but none of them were working. She still thought it was someone just disguised as him. I couldn’t understand why she wouldn’t believe him. He gave her so many reason to but yet she was in denial. At the same time I did though. If someone was gone for over 20 years who was said to be dead and then suddenly appeared I would be a little curious as well. Finally he brought up one last thing to make her believe. I didn’t think that he was going to be able to convince her but he proved me wrong when he brought up his next statement. He brought up their bed. Penelope and Odysseus were the only people who knew that their bed was not able to move because it wasn’t a normal bed. Their bed frame was made out of a tree trunk and the roots were still in the ground below the house. When Odysseus said that, she immediately knew that it was him. The family rejoiced and continued on with life happily.
